Paul and Peter have been involved in the preparation and
implementation of Local Biodiversity Action Plans in Cheshire for:

White-faced Darter |

White-letter Hairstreak |

Small
Pearl-borded Fritillary |

Dingy Skipper |
These have been undertaken as part of the County’s Countdown Process
with funding through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. The two-year project
saw the involvement of several landowners and conservation organisations
working in partnership to improve the habitats for the Action Species.
During the winters of 1998/99 and 1999/2000 over 600 person days were
spent on various management tasks such as:
- Scrub clearance to remove invasive birch to improve conditions for
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Dingy Skipper at four sites in Cheshire.
- Removal of regenerating pine and birch on mosslands to prevent drying
out of the sphagnum carpet – this work is to benefit the White-faced
Darter
- Creation of new pools in mosslands sites for dragonflies, especially
the White-faced Darter
- Regular monitoring of the target species during the flight periods
has been used to measure the success of the projects.
